VMware vVols enables data replication, snapshots, and encryption to be
controlled at the VMDK level instead of the LUN level from within VMware vCenter, where
these data services are performed on a per VM (application level) basis from the storage
system.
Steps

Select the storage system.

Select to open the vVols list view.
Use the vVols list view to
view and manage vVols.
The following properties display:
- Name—User-defined vVol name
- Storage
Resource—Name of the associated storage resource
- Storage
Container—Name of the associated storage container
- VM—Name
of the associated virtual machine.
- Allocated (%)—Percentage allocated
- Capacity (GB)—vVol capacity, in GB
- Emulation—Emulation type for the vVol
To view the details of a vVol, select the masking group and click
. The following properties are displayed:
- Name—User-defined vVol name
- Storage Resource—Name of the associated storage
resource
- Storage Container—Name of the associated storage
container
- VM—Virtual machine name
- ESXi—ESXi server name
- vCenter—vCenter name
- Allocated (%)—Percentage allocated
- Capacity (GB)—vVol capacity, in GB
- Emulation—Emulation type for the vVol
- Type—Object type. For a vVol, the value is
usually VVOL.
- Status—vVol status
- Capacity (MB)—vVol capacity, in MB
- Capacity (Cyl)—vVol capacity, in cylinders
- Unreducable (GB)—Amount that an allocated vVol is unreducible
- Data Reduction Ratio—Data reduction ratio
- System—Storage system on which the vVol
resides
- System Vol ID—Storage system vVol name or number
- WWN—World Wide Name of the vVol
- External Identity WWN—External Identity World
